Pregnant woman assaulted over earring dispute; unborn baby lost

A violent clash between two groups over a gold earring in Char Fasson left an unborn child dead and four others seriously injured.

A trivial argument over a gold earring escalated into a fierce clash between the families of Abdul Majhi and Alamgir Bepari in Char Nolua village. Witnesses stated that Abdul Majhi's wife Panna, along with their sons Rakib and Helal, attacked Alamgir Bepari's wife and daughters with sticks.

When Nashima, a four-month pregnant woman, rushed to save her family, the attackers repeatedly kicked and punched her in the stomach and back. Nashima collapsed unconscious, while four others sustained severe injuries attempting to break up the fight.

Local residents rushed the injured to Char Fasson Government Hospital for treatment. Residential Medical Officer (RMO) Dr Maklukur Rahman confirmed that Nashima suffered severe trauma and heavy bleeding, resulting in an incomplete abortion that required a D&C procedure.

Doctors reported that Nashima remains in critical condition alongside the four other hospitalized victims. Her husband, Bachhu, a fisherman, demanded justice for the attack on his wife and the loss of their unborn child.

Accused family members Rakib and Abdul Majhi could not be reached for comment as their mobile phones remained switched off following the incident.

South Aicha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Ahsan Kabir described the loss of the unborn child as deeply sensitive and tragic. Police confirmed they have not yet received a formal complaint but promised immediate legal action once a case is filed.
