Bangladesh recorded its highest daily number of dengue hospital admissions this year, with 1,753 patients hospitalised and seven people dying from the mosquito-borne disease in the past 24 hours.

According to data released by the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Wednesday (September 16), the latest fatalities have pushed the country’s dengue death toll to 171 this year, while the total number of hospitalisations has reached 56,916.

Of the seven deaths reported in the past 24 hours, three occurred in Khulna Division, while Chattogram, Mymensingh, Rajshahi and Rangpur divisions recorded one death each.

The deceased included four men and three women.

The latest figures reflect a sharp rise in dengue infections across the country. Prior to Wednesday, the highest daily hospital admission figure this year was recorded on September 15, when 1,593 patients were admitted.

Earlier, 1,571 patients were hospitalised on September 8, while 1,324 were admitted on September 1.

The continued rise in dengue cases has raised concerns over the country’s growing public health burden, with hospitals facing increasing pressure to provide treatment to infected patients.

Health authorities continue to monitor the situation as dengue infections spread across different parts of the country.
