Gulshan Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Daud Hossain was closed on Wednesday (September 16), five days after a procession was brought out in the area by the banned Awami League.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmad issued an official order citing administrative reasons for transferring OC Hossain to the Central Reserve Office at DMP Headquarters. The order took effect immediately on Wednesday morning.

The administrative action follows an incident on Friday, Sept 11, when leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its associate bodies staged a rally near the KFC alley on Road 3 in Gulshan around 11:45 AM.

Protesters hurled cocktail explosives at police officers as they attempted to disperse the gathering. Police arrested two individuals on the spot and recovered five cocktail bombs, with subsequent drives leading to at least 75 arrests.

Speaking at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed admitted to intelligence lapses regarding the gathering. He stated that while intelligence inputs existed, police failed to anticipate that activists would assemble in the area under the guise of attending Friday's Jummah prayers.
