Russia has claimed that Ukraine lost around 1,225 troops in fighting with Russian forces over the past 24 hours.

Russia’s Defence Ministry disclosed the information on Tuesday (September 15) in its latest update on the ongoing Russian military operation in Ukraine.

According to the ministry, Ukrainian forces suffered their highest losses in the areas of responsibility of Russia’s Centre Battlegroup, where more than 345 Ukrainian troops were reportedly killed or wounded. The ministry said Ukraine also lost up to 285 troops in the area covered by the East Battlegroup, around 200 in the West Battlegroup area, up to 195 in the North Battlegroup area, around 165 in the South Battlegroup area and approximately 35 in the Dnepr Battlegroup area.

The Russian state-run news agency TASS reported the figures, citing the Defence Ministry.

The ministry also claimed that Russian forces carried out overnight strikes on a military equipment storage facility in Velyka Balka in the Odesa region, which was allegedly being used to supply the Ukrainian military. Russian forces also reportedly struck a cargo vessel and a ferry at the Chornomorsk port in the region.

Russia further claimed that railway infrastructure in western Ukraine used to transport military equipment from Europe was targeted overnight.

The Defence Ministry said Russian forces also destroyed or intercepted more than 200 Ukrainian drones over various Russian regions during the night.

Moscow additionally claimed that Russian forces had struck Ukrainian fuel and transport infrastructure, drone storage and assembly facilities, as well as Ukrainian military units and foreign mercenaries at 39 locations over the past 24 hours. The attacks were allegedly carried out by Russian strategic aircraft, attack drones, missile forces and artillery units.

The ministry also claimed that two Ukrainian assault groups attempting a counterattack near Kazachya Lopan in the Kharkiv region were completely destroyed.

According to the Russian Defence Ministry, Russia’s Northern Battlegroup has taken control of the Olkhovatka area in the Kharkiv region. It further claimed that Ukrainian troops trapped in the area were being destroyed.

Fighting was also reportedly continuing against Ukrainian forces in Malaya Volchya, while Russian forces carried out heavy artillery strikes near Buzovoye and Khripuny, according to the ministry.

Russia’s air-defence forces reportedly shot down six guided bombs and 589 Ukrainian drones over the past 24 hours.

The Russian Defence Ministry also provided cumulative figures for the conflict, claiming that since the beginning of Russia’s military operation in Ukraine, Russian forces have destroyed 674 Ukrainian warplanes, 284 helicopters, 236,589 unmanned aerial vehicles, 672 surface-to-air missile systems, 30,930 tanks and other armoured vehicles, 1,777 multiple rocket launchers, 36,463 artillery pieces and mortars, and 71,960 special military vehicles.

The battlefield figures and destruction claims cited above could not be independently verified.
