Disha Patani faces outfit controversy after Kriti Sanon

Bollywood actress Disha Patani has found herself at the centre of a social media controversy over her outfit at the Ambani family’s Ganesh Chaturthi celebration.
Disha attended the 2026 Ganesh Chaturthi festivities wearing a red lehenga with intricate detailing, a matching blouse with a plunging neckline and a red dupatta draped over one shoulder. She completed the look with statement earrings, bangles and open hair, posing for photographers as she arrived.
Photos and videos from the event quickly circulated online, prompting criticism from some social media users, who questioned whether the outfit was appropriate for a religious ceremony. Some also asked whether celebrities were turning religious festivals into fashion showcases.
One user on X wrote, “What a terrible outfit for a Ganpati festival! Shouldn’t there be a dress code?” Another questioned whether Disha’s attire was suitable for the occasion, while some comments compared her appearance to that of someone attending a fashion show rather than a religious celebration.
Critics largely acknowledged that people have the right to choose what they wear, but argued that religious events carry a different social and cultural context and therefore call for greater sensitivity. Disha has not responded publicly to the criticism.
The controversy comes shortly after a similar debate involving actress Kriti Sanon. Kriti appeared in a GIVA jewellery advertisement for Raksha Bandhan wearing a bralette-style blouse, cape and draped skirt. The campaign drew criticism on social media, after which GIVA withdrew the advertisement.
The brand said it deeply respected Indian culture, traditions and festivals and apologised if the advertisement had unintentionally hurt anyone’s sentiments.
Kriti later responded to the controversy, writing that “culture and tradition are in her heart, not her neckline.”
