A 22-day government ban on catching, selling, hoarding and transporting hilsa will come into effect from October 8 to save mother hilsa during peak breeding season.
The decision was made at a meeting of the National Task Force Committee on Hilsa Resource Development, which met on Tuesday to determine the fishing closure period during the peak breeding season and strengthen the mother hilsa conservation campaign.
Fisheries and Livestock and Agriculture Minister Mohammad Amin Ur Rashid chaired the meeting.
