Gas supply to remain suspended for 14 hours in Brahmanbaria

Gas supply will remain suspended for 14 hours in Brahmanbaria municipality, Sadar upazila and Sarail on Tuesday due to emergency pipeline repair and maintenance work.
Bakhrabad Gas Distribution Company Limited said supply to all categories of customers in the areas will remain suspended from 8:00 AM to 10:00 PM on September 15.
In a notice issued on Monday afternoon, the company said the temporary suspension was necessary to carry out emergency repair and maintenance work. It apologised to customers for the inconvenience.
Deputy General Manager of the company's Brahmanbaria office Md Shafiqul Haque said separate gas lines were being installed for five CNG filling stations in the Bishwaroad area and the BSCIC industrial area.
He said the new lines were expected to increase gas pressure for industries and CNG stations and help reduce the gas shortage faced by residential customers.
"If the work is completed ahead of schedule, gas supply may be restored earlier," he said.
The announcement has sparked concern among residents, who have long been suffering from low gas pressure and irregular supply in the municipality and other areas.
Residents of Kajipara, Sheikh Dulal and Afroza Akter, said gas pressure remained too low for regular cooking and that they often had to rely on alternative fuels.
They said gas was unavailable for around 15 hours a day and called for a permanent solution to the longstanding crisis.
Residents also questioned why people in a district with its own gas production and resources should continue to suffer from shortages.
They urged the authorities to take long-term measures to resolve the crisis in addition to carrying out the immediate repair and maintenance work.
