A Dhaka court on Monday rejected the bail petition of biker Muhibullah Mubin, who was arrested for allegedly attempting to enter the security cordon of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman during an event in Farmgate.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Ehsanul Islam passed the order after hearing both sides.

Defence lawyer Robiul Alam Jewel sought bail, saying Mubin was innocent and had gone to the venue only to take a selfie. He also claimed that police found no incriminating information during his remand.

The prosecution opposed the bail plea.

Mubin was arrested on September 5 while Tarique Rahman was attending a discussion at KIB Auditorium in Monipuripara. Police later filed an Anti-Terrorism Act case against him with Tejgaon Police Station.

A court granted him five days remand on September 7. After the remand, he was sent to jail on September 10.

Police alleged that Mubin was at the venue with unidentified accomplices with a plan to disrupt the prime minister’s security and foil the programme. A motorcycle, two passports, two mobile phones and SIM cards were seized from him.
