BSF hands over body of Bangladeshi man shot dead at Thakurgaon border

The Indian Border Security Force (BSF) handed over the body of a Bangladeshi man nearly 40 hours after he was shot dead at the Thakurgaon border.
The body of Asadul Haque, 38, was handed over to the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the Danajpur border in Pirganj around 8:30 PM on Sunday.
Police from Pirganj in Bangladesh and Raiganj in India were present during the handover.
Asadul was shot dead by the BSF inside Indian territory near the Pirganj border on Saturday morning. Two other Bangladeshis, Mostakim, 32, and Uda Ray, 34, were also injured and detained by the BSF. Another man, Ayub Ali, remains missing.
According to local sources, four Bangladeshis led by Ayub Ali were attempting to cross into India by cutting through the border fence when BSF personnel opened fire at them. Asadul was shot, while Mostakim and Uda were injured.
The incident occurred near Main Border Pillar No. 333 in the area under Chandherhat Border Outpost (BOP) of Pirganj early Saturday.
The injured men were taken to Kaliyaganj General Hospital in India by BSF personnel. Asadul later died while undergoing treatment.
Asadul, son of Abdul Wazed Ali of Indrail village, was the father of two daughters and a son. His income was the main source of livelihood for his family.
Lieutenant Colonel Abdullah Al Moin, commander of BGB Battalion-42 in Dinajpur, said the BGB learned about the incident through various sources and held several flag meetings with the BSF.
“The BSF acknowledged that one person had died and two others had been injured. After three rounds of flag meetings, we received Asadul's body at around 8:30 PM,” he said.
Abdul Hakim, investigation officer of Pirganj Police Station, said the BGB had informed them that the body would be handed over through the Danajpur border at night.
“After receiving the body, it was handed over to Asadul's family,” he said.
