The family of slain journalist couple Sagar Sarwar and Meherun Runi has filed a written complaint with the International Crimes Tribunal, seeking a fresh investigation and trial of those responsible for their murders.

Nowsher Roman, the complainant in the murder case, submitted the complaint to Tribunal Chief Prosecutor Aminul Islam on Sunday morning.

According to the complaint, Sagar Sarwar, news editor of Maasranga Television, and Meherun Runi, a senior correspondent at ATN Bangla, were murdered at their rented home in the capital's  West Rajabazar at 2AM to 7AM on February 11, 2012.

The family alleged that the government and successive investigative agencies have failed to solve the case even after more than 14 years.

The case was initially investigated by the police, followed by the Detective Branch and the Rapid Action Battalion. Later, on the direction of the High Court, the investigation was handed over to the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI).

However, the complaint said the PBI has also failed to make any significant progress or bring the investigation to a conclusion.

It further alleged that nearly two years after the formation of the PBI investigation team, there has still been no breakthrough in identifying those responsible for the killings.

The family has urged the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) to register the complaint, conduct a fair and thorough investigation, identify the actual perpetrators and bring them to justice.

They also called for exemplary punishment for those found responsible for the murders.

The Sagar-Runi killings have remained one of the country's most high-profile unresolved murder cases, drawing repeated criticism over the prolonged investigation.
