Patuakhali hospital holds cleaning drive to prevent dengue

A cleanliness drive was held at the 250-bed Patuakhali General Hospital on Friday morning as part of efforts to prevent the spread of dengue.

The programme was organised by the management committee of Patuakhali Medical College Hospital. Dr Md Saiful Azam Ranjoo, professor at Bangladesh Medical University and a member of the central committee of Doctors Association of Bangladesh (DAB), inaugurated the drive.

Dr SM Kabir Hasan, acting superintendent of the hospital, chaired the programme. Patuakhali Medical College Principal Dr Md Ziaul Karim, Patuakhali Press Club President Md Zakir Hossain, hospital officials, doctors, nurses and other staff were present.

Under the programme, different wards of the hospital were cleaned and mosquito repellent was sprayed.

Speakers said preventing dengue required more than medical treatment and urged people to remain aware, keep their surroundings clean and use mosquito nets while sleeping.

They said dengue could be prevented through coordinated efforts by everyone.
