Army distributes essential items, sports gear in CHT

The Ruma Zone of the Bangladesh Army has distributed essential welfare items and humanitarian assistance across several remote villages in Ruma upazila to improve local living standards and bolster community harmony.

Under the initiative, army personnel supplied a 20 KVA generator, a 10 KVA dynamo, a 3 HP submersible pump, and a solar power panel for the community center at Arthah Para to address local power and water demands.

To resolve drinking water shortages in rugged terrain, the army handed over a 1,000-liter water tank at Salem Para, a 3 HP submersible pump with a 5,000-liter tank at Chairagru Para, and a 2,000-liter tank with a sound system at Happy Hill Para. Additionally, Shukramoni Para received a 2,000-liter tank, 700 feet of water pipe, a sound system, and a solar panel.

To encourage youth participation in sports, volleyballs, nets, and footballs were distributed among young residents in Basatlang Para, Parba Para, and Niangkhyang Para.

Ruma Zone Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mehedi Hasan Sarkar stated that the military remains committed to socio-economic development, health, education, and safe drinking water initiatives in the Chittagong Hill Tracts.

He added that assistance continues for returning Bawm community members from Mizoram, including cash support, food, tin sheets, solar panels, sewing machines, and joint farming schemes to ensure rehabilitation.
