The Padma River continued its upward trend in Chapainawabganj due to an onrush of upstream water, rising by 7 centimeters over the last 24 hours, according to official data showed on Friday (September 11).

However, water levels remained stable over the three hours leading up to Friday morning.

S.M. Ahsan Habib, Executive Engineer of the Chapainawabganj Water Development Board (WDB), confirmed the latest measurements on Friday morning.

He reported that the water level of the Padma River was recorded at 21.76 meters Mean Sea Level (MSL) at 6:00 AM on Friday. With the danger threshold established at 22.05 meters MSL, the river is currently flowing 29 centimeters below the danger mark.

The continuous rise of the Padma River over recent days has inundated several low-lying areas across the district. Numerous families in low-lying tracts have been marooned, while agricultural land and sections of local roadways have been submerged under water.

Local residents expressed concern over potential deterioration if the water levels continue to rise.

The Water Development Board assured that the river's condition is being closely monitored. While the water level maintains an upward trajectory, officials emphasized that it has not yet crossed the danger threshold.
