288 sacks of fertiliser seized in Magura

A total of 288 sacks of fertiliser have been seized from the residence of a businessman in the Shreepur upazila of Magura on Thursday for allegedly storing fertiliser illegally and creating an artificial shortage.

According to a mobile court verdict, the trader, Jamirul Islam was fined Tk 30,000 and seven days in jail without labour for the offence.

The operation was carried out in Tikarbila Bazar of the upazila by Shreepur Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Asmaul Husna Pinky on Thursday afternoon.

On receiving of information, the upazila administration conducted the drive suspecting that Jamirul had stockpiled fertiliser to sell it at an inflated price.

The fertiliser was seized after being detected stored in the house. Later, Jamirul was convicted as per Fertiliser Management Act.

The Upazila Agriculture Officer of Shreepur, Humayun Kabir informed that the fertiliser was seized by the administration with the help of police on the basis of information regarding illegal stockpiling.

Executive Magistrate Asmaul Husna Pinky said that necessary action would be taken against those who would create artificial shortage or indulge in any dishonest practices in the agriculture field.

This was the second such drive in five days against the illegal stockpiling of fertiliser were found.
