A court in Narayanganj has sentenced Abdur Rahim Khan to life imprisonment for killing his wife, Marufa Akter, in Rupganj.
The court also fined him Tk 100,000, and in default, he will have to serve an additional six months in jail.
Narayanganj Additional Sessions Judge’s Court-3 Judge Mohammad Delwar Hossain pronounced the verdict in the presence of the accused on Thursday (September 10) afternoon.
Court Police Inspector Md Abdus Samad confirmed the matter.
Convict Abdur Rahim Khan, 33, is the son of late Dhalu Khan of Bahadurpur area under Muladi Police Station in Barishal. The victim, Marufa Akter, was the daughter of Md Ibrahim Munshi of Rajarchar area under Kotwali Police Station in Barishal.
According to Additional Public Prosecutor Advocate Md Nazrul Islam (Masum), Abdur Rahim Khan beat and strangled his wife to death at their rented home in Rasulpur area of Rupganj on June 13, 2022, following a family dispute.
Later, the victim’s father, Ibrahim Munshi, filed a case with Rupganj Police Station over the incident.
The court delivered the verdict in the case, the prosecutor said.
