PM orders tougher action against pollution, plastic use

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has directed law enforcement agencies to take tougher action to curb the unchecked use of polythene and plastic and control environmental pollution across the country.

He also instructed the relevant ministries, divisions and agencies to properly carry out their responsibilities in addressing the issue.

The prime minister issued the directives at a review meeting on environmental pollution control held at the Secretariat on Wednesday morning.

The meeting, chaired by Tarique Rahman, reviewed progress in implementing various government initiatives to control environmental pollution, including promoting the use of environmentally friendly block bricks, tackling air, water, soil and noise pollution, and improving waste management.

During the meeting, the prime minister instructed law enforcement agencies to step up enforcement against the uncontrolled use of polythene and plastic. 

He also asked the concerned ministries, divisions and agencies to ensure they fulfil their respective responsibilities in this regard.

The meeting also assessed the progress of ongoing government measures to control pollution and discussed further steps and future actions needed to strengthen environmental protection.
