A University of Chittagong (CU) student died after being electrocuted while putting up a banner at the gate of Shahid Abdur Rab Hall on Tuesday night.
Arif, a student of the Department of Zoology from the 2024-25 academic session, died at Evercare Hospital Chattogram at around 10:45 PM.
He climbed onto the top of the hall gate at around 10:00 PM to put up a banner for his department. He was electrocuted and remained hanging from the gate for a while.
After the hall’s power supply was disconnected, he fell to the ground and was immediately taken to the university’s medical centre. The attending doctor advised shifting him to Evercare Hospital Chattogram for advanced treatment.
Doctors conducted an ECG at the hospital and declared him dead.
Dr Mohammad Abu Tayeb, CU Chief Medical Officer, said, “The electrocuted student was brought to the medical centre in critical condition and was later referred to Evercare Hospital.”
CU Assistant Proctor Prof Dr Kamrul Islam confirmed the death, saying, “The injured student died after being taken to the hospital.”
