Water Resources Minister Shaheed Uddin Chowdhury Anni has accused the opposition of sheltering Nasiruddin Patwari and Sifat, who he alleged have made offensive remarks and used abusive language targeting Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and the Zia family.

He made the remarks at a discussion at the Zia Smriti Pathagar book fair organised by the Bangla Academy on Tuesday morning.

Anni claimed that such remarks amounted to criminal offences.

He also alleged that the opposition was echoing “fascist forces” and calling for a one-point movement in December. He said the “Guptabahini” was speaking with a boldness that even fascist forces had not shown.

The minister urged Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal leaders and activists to remain alert about the “Guptabahini” by considering its past activities.

He also called on Chhatra Dal activists to organise protests at universities across the country against those making offensive remarks.
