6,615 Yaba pills recovered from two children’s stomachs

A total of 6,615 Yaba pills have been recovered from the stomachs of two children at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
The children were allegedly taken from Cox’s Bazar to Chattogram after Yaba pills were inserted into their stomachs. The incident took place on Monday (September 7).
Earlier on Sunday, RAB arrested a woman and two children during an operation at a checkpost in the Sarkarhat area of Anwara upazila.
On Monday, the two children were taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital. A total of 6,615 yaba pills were later recovered from their stomachs.
Lieutenant Tawhidul Islam, commander of RAB-7 camp, said, "A gang had long been using children to smuggle drugs along the Cox’s Bazar-Chattogram route."
RAB had been monitoring the matter based on intelligence information, he said.
As part of the operation, RAB set up a checkpost in the Sarkarhat area of Anwara upazila on Sunday.
A woman named Sharmin Akter was arrested from a CNG-run auto-rickshaw during the operation. She is a resident of Chakaria upazila.
The two children accompanying her were also detained.
RAB said the woman admitted during initial interrogation that the children were carrying yaba pills in their stomachs.
The children were later taken to Chattogram Medical College Hospital.
Doctors confirmed the presence of yaba pills in their stomachs after conducting X-rays. The pills were then recovered through bowel movements.
RAB said the two children are residents of Alikadam in Bandarban.
The gang allegedly used them in drug smuggling by offering to cover their family expenses and pay them Tk 8,000.
Sharmin Akter was kept with the children so that no one would become suspicious, RAB said.
Citing doctors, RAB camp commander Tawhidul Islam said the children were at risk of death because of the yaba pills inside their stomachs.
An operation is underway to arrest other members of the gang, he said.
He also urged parents to remain alert so that drug traffickers cannot use children for smuggling.
