A Dhaka court on Monday remanded a youth for five days in a case filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over an alleged attempt to breach the security cordon during Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s programme in Farmgate.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Sarah Farzana Haque passed the order after police sought seven days remand for accused Muhibullah Mubin.

Police said Mubin was seen moving suspiciously near the security cordon after the prime minister entered the venue at around 4pm on Saturday. He allegedly tried to enter the restricted area and was subsequently detained.

A case was later filed against him with Tejgaon Police Station under the Anti-Terrorism Act.

Police said they were investigating Mubin’s motive and whether anyone else was involved in the incident.
