US President Donald Trump sparked global online frenzy after claiming the United States owns the moon, while the White House cast him as superhero Green Lantern in AI-generated media.

Trump made the bold assertion on Truth Social on September 6, 2026, sharing an image of the moon emblazoned with the words "The Moon is Ours" alongside an American flag.

Moments prior, Trump unveiled AI-generated concepts for dark US Space Force uniforms featuring shades like "space grey, midnight black, silver grey, and satin black." Social media users immediately drew comparisons to the Star Wars Imperial military, with commenter’s joking about warning Martians or asking why he stopped short of claiming Mars and the Sun.

Despite the claim, international law stands in stark contrast. The Outer Space Treaty of 1967, signed by over 100 nations including the US, explicitly prohibits national sovereignty claims over the moon or other celestial bodies.

Adding to the spectacle, the White House shared an AI-generated video and photos depicting Trump as the DC comic hero Green Lantern, complete with a glowing power ring and the iconic superhero oath.
