Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam, who is also a member of the Bangladesh Energy and Power Research Council (BEPRC), has become the new chairman of Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation (BPC).

In a notification issued on Sunday (September 6), the Public Administration Ministry has named him as the chairman of BPC. The notification was signed by Deputy Secretary Mohammad Nur-e-Alam of the Deputation-1 department.

As a result, BPC now has its regular chairman after about 50 days.

Previously, on July 26, BPC Chairman Md. Rezanur Rahman, an additional secretary, was designated as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD). Following a weeklong vacancy in the position of chairman (August 2), Ziaul Haque took charge as acting chairman. He was then promoted and designated secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division five days after.

Again after five-day vacancy in the position (August 12), Additional Secretary of the Energy and Mineral Resources Division Md. Manzur Alam Pradhan was made the acting chairman of BPC.
