A customs officer was killed and at least 10 people were injured following the overturning of a passenger bus in Feni on Sunday evening.
The victim has been identified as Mohammad Abdul Alim, 40, Assistant Revenue Officer at Sylhet Customs and VAT office. Alim was the son of Abdul Kader of Baroiyarhat Municipality, Chattogram.
The bus accident took place near the Star Line Filling Station in Lalpole area around 8:20 PM on Sunday (September 6). According to sources, an unknown truck suddenly applied its brakes leading the Shyamoli Paribahan bus following behind to overturn due to a collision with the road divider.
Fire Services and Highway Police rescued the victims and took them to Feni General Hospital, where Alim breathed his last while being treated for injuries. Several other people are reported to be critically injured.
The accident caused temporary traffic disruption and severe congestion on the Chattogram-bound lane. Police later removed the bus after about two and a half hours and restored normal traffic.
