Three people have been arrested within 24 hours over the murder of a young man who was allegedly lured to Chashara in Narayanganj and attacked by a group, police said on Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Shubho Chandra Das, 30, son of Hari Chandra Das of Galachipa in Narayanganj Sadar.
According to the District Detective Branch (DB), Shubho was allegedly called to the spot through his associate Sohan in exchange for 10 yaba tablets as part of a pre-planned attack. A group of 10 to 12 people then allegedly gathered there.
Police said Anik and Ahid allegedly shot Shubho before other members of the group attacked him with knives. He died at the scene.
The three arrested are Suman alias Maigga Suman, 45, Siam Ahmed Sijan, 21, and Md Sohan, 24.
Narayanganj Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Tarek Al Mehedi confirmed the arrests at a briefing on Sunday.
Police recovered a motorcycle and three mobile phones from the suspects. The weapons allegedly used in the murder have not yet been recovered.
Shubho’s father filed a case with Narayanganj Sadar Model Police Station under Sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code.
DB launched a shadow investigation after the murder and used information technology and intelligence to identify those allegedly involved, police said.
Several others are still suspected to be involved in the killing. Police said efforts are underway to arrest them and recover the weapons and other evidence.
