Middle East oil exports plunge 39%

Oil exports from the Middle East fell by 39% in August compared with the period before the war began, as the effective closure of the Strait of Hormuz disrupted global energy supplies.

According to TankerTrackers data, the Middle East exported an average of around 18.5 million barrels of crude oil per day in January and February. In August, daily exports were about 7.2 million barrels lower than pre-war levels.

Earlier, in May, oil exports from the region had fallen by 67% compared with the period before the war began.
