Bus-auto rickshaw crash leaves 2 dead in Ctg's Chandanaish

Two people were killed and three others injured in a head-on collision between a bus and a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Chandanaish on the Chattogram-Cox’s Bazar highway.

The accident occurred at around 1:30 p.m. on Saturday (September 5) in the Bottola area near the Shah Sufi Mazar Gate in the upazila.

The deceased were Tofael Mursaleen, 23, of Padua South Amirabad in Lohagara upazila of Chattogram, and Abdul Gafur, 60, of Ward No. 5 of North Kanchannagar in Chandanaish. Tofael was a third-year student at Begum Osman Ara College of Nursing. Abdul Gafur was the son of the late Kalu Mia of the same area.

According to eyewitnesses, an AC bus of Tisha Platinama Paribahan, traveling from Chattogram to Cox’s Bazar, collided head-on with a passenger CNG-powered auto-rickshaw coming from the opposite direction. Five people, including the auto-rickshaw driver, were seriously injured in the crash.

Local residents rescued the injured and took them to BGC Trust Medical College Hospital. Doctors there declared Tofael Mursaleen dead. After receiving initial treatment, the injured were referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital for better treatment. Abdul Gafur died on the way to the hospital.

Dr ATM Monirul Kabir of BGC Trust Medical College said one person had died in the accident and four seriously injured people were sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital after receiving initial treatment.

Abdus Sattar, a sub-inspector (SI) at Dohazari Highway Police Station, said two people were killed and three others seriously injured in the collision. The bus was seized and taken to the police station, while its driver, Solaiman Badsha, was detained.

Further legal action will be taken in connection with the incident, he added.
