Mirsarai fire leaves three brothers without home

A fire broke out at a residential house in Mirsarai upazila of Chittagong on Friday night, destroying the homes of three brothers and leaving their families without shelter.

The fire erupted around 8:30 PM at the residence of Surej Master in Madhyam Wahedpur village under Wahedpur Union.

The affected families belong to three brothers named Palash Kanti Nath, Uttam Kumar Nath and Arjun Kumar Nath. The house of their neighbor Dulal Kanti Nath also suffered partial damage in the blaze.

The affected families said cash, gold ornaments, important documents, furniture and other belongings worth total of Tk 15 lakhs were destroyed in the fire.

Dulal Kanti Nath said the fire suddenly started from one of the rooms and quickly spread to the other rooms. No one was inside the house when the fire broke out.

Local residents initially tried to bring the fire under control before informing the Fire Service and Civil Defense. Chandan Rani Deb, wife of Uttam Kumar Nath said the fire broke out in their house around 8:30PM when no one was inside.

The exact cause of the fire is not confirmed yet, although they suspect an electrical short circuit may have triggered it.

She added that her husband fell ill after witnessing the fire and was taken to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

Mirsarai Fire Service and Civil Defense Station Officer Saidul Islam said firefighters rushed to the scene after receiving the report and began efforts to control the blaze.

Reaching the site was difficult due to damaged narrow street, as well as the presence of dish TV lines, he said.

According to the station officer, the fire completely destroyed the homes of the three families. There were 10 to 15 residential houses in the same compound.

Firefighters initially suspects that an electrical short circuit may have caused the fire.
