Jamaat’s long march worsening fuel crisis: Rashed Khan

Jamaat-e-Islami’s long march is aggravating the country’s fuel crisis and increasing public suffering by disrupting road traffic and allegedly wasting around 100,000 litres of fuel, said Rashed Khan, political assistant to the prime minister.

He made the remarks in a post on his verified Facebook account on Saturday.

''Despair is visible on the faces of opposition leaders,” Khan wrote, claiming that the long march announced by Jamaat had failed to draw significant interest or participation from ordinary people beyond the party’s activists.

He said the organisers had expected large crowds along the roads and believed the Jamaat Ameer's vehicle would be unable to pass through the “overwhelming” turnout. However, despite what he described as substantial domestic and foreign investment in the mobilisation, the nine-party alliance led by Jamaat had failed to attract ordinary citizens.

Rashed Khan also noted that two parties had already left the alliance.

He further said people were sufficiently aware of the national and international crises surrounding electricity, fuel and gas.
