11-party alliance’s Dhaka-Chattogram long march today

A peaceful long march by 11-party alliance is scheduled to take place today (Saturday) from Dhaka to Chattogram for implementing the verdict of the referendum, trials for July killing, shortage of electricity, fuel, gas and fertiliser, controlling the price rise, and putting end to extortion, corruption and politicking.

The long march will start from today morning at a rally arranged at Shapla Chattar in Motijheel. The marchers will hold rallies on roadside in Kanchpur of Narayanganj, Paduar Bazar of Cumilla, Mohipal of Feni and Mirsarai of Chattogram and then finally rally in Laldighi of Chattogram.

According to Dr AHM Hamidur Rahman Azad, the coordination of the alliance and assistant secretary general of Jamaat-e-Islami, more than 3,000 vehicles were planned for the long march, but due to the present fuel crisis, the number was cut down to about 1,000 vehicles.

He added that the long march will be conducted peacefully and in disciplined way with use of one lane in order to ensure regular flow of traffic.

The National Citizen Party (NCP) also participates in the long march and sees it as an opportunity to exert political pressure on the government and strengthening its organisation.

General Secretary of Jamaat Mia Golam Parwar demanded the government facilitate the smooth march, as they feared if it was stopped, the government would lose public trust. He assured that they were not trying to topple the government but they wanted the implementation of the verdict of referendum along with their six demands.
