We don’t do politics of photo sessions: Anee

The government has been in office for only six months and cannot be expected to complete all its work within this period, Water Resources Minister and BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee said on Friday (September 4).

“Have 20,000 kilometers of canals been re-excavated? Is there any scope to say that the work has been completed? The opposition should understand this. They are going to hold a long march after six months. We do not do politics of photo sessions,” he said.

Anee made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest after inaugurating a canal cleaning programme at Rahmatkhali Canal in Lakshmipur municipality around 11:30 AM on Friday. The district units of the Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal and Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal organized the programme.

The water resources minister said PM Tarique Rahman was showing the people a new dream. “We do not want to remain within this dream. We want to establish it and implement it,” he said.

He said the government had taken up a plan to re-excavate 20,000 kilometers of canals. Many leaders had been in power and some considered themselves visionary leaders, but none had undertaken such an initiative to benefit people, he said.

“We are already seeing the benefits of re-excavating canals. We have started the work based on Tarique Rahman’s sharp vision and far-sighted thinking,” Anee said.

District Council Administrator Shahab Uddin Sabu, district BNP Joint Convener Hasibur Rahman, Bangladesh Football Federation Vice-President Wahid Uddin Chowdhury Happy, district Swechchhasebak Dal President Mohsin Kabir Swapan, General Secretary Harunur Rashid, district Krishak Dal President Mahabub Alam Mamun, General Secretary Mostafizur Rahman Sohel and district Chhatra Dal Convener Abul Barakat Sourav, among others, were present.
