Four senior Police officers dismissed

The government has dismissed four police officers as allegations against them were proven. 

The Home Ministry issued four separate notifications on Wednesday (September 2) confirming the matter. Prolonged absence from duty and misconduct in performance were primary reasons for their removal. 

The orders were issued by Ministry’s discipline-1 branch under the direction of the President and signed by senior secretary Manzur Morshed Chowdhury.

Identities of the dismissed officers follow - former Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Detective Branch (DB) Joint Police Commissioner Sanjit Kumar Roy, former Dhaka Metropolitan police (DMP) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Manas Kumar Podder, former Rangpur Superintendent of Police Mohammad Shahjahan and Additional Superintendent of Police Mohammed Hafiz Al Faruk of the Bangladesh Police Academy.

According to the notifications, Sanjit Kumar Roy had been absent from his workplace without permission since September 17, 2024. He was also accused of serious negligence in performing his official duties, disobeying governmental orders and violating discipline. A departmental investigation found the allegations of misconduct and desertion against him to be proven, leading to his dismissal.

Manas Kumar Poddar had been absent without permission since October 18, 2024. A departmental investigation has been conducted against him and allegations of misconduct and desertion were proven.

Former Rangpur SP Mohammad Shahjahan did not return to work after his leave ended on January 16, 2025. A departmental case and was subsequently filed against him over his prolonged unauthorized absence. The allegations were proven during the investigation, resulting in his dismissal.

Meanwhile, Additional SP Mohammed Hafiz Al Faruk of the Bangladeash Police Academy had been absent from duty without permission since February 1, 2025. Allegations against him were proven which led to his removal. 

The Home Ministry said department cases and investigation against all four officers were conducted under the Governmental Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. After the allegations were established, the government sought the advice of Bangladesh Public Service Commission and finalized the dismissals with the approval of the President.
