Argentina plans grand farewell for Lionel Messi

Argentina has planned a special tribute ceremony for Lionel Messi following his decision to retire from the national team, marking the end of the golden era for the Albiceleste.

As per a bulletin issued by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) on Wednesday, all the local football matches this coming weekend will pay a special tribute to the legend for his national team career.

As per the plans, the games in men's and women's football, futsal and beach football will have a halt after the completion of 10 minutes in the first half. The players as well as the officials will observe a tribute in the form of one minute applause for Messi and his tenure at the Argentina jersey.

The tribute ceremony will be also held during the Argentine Cup match between Velez and Boca at Cordoba, which is scheduled for 9:15 pm on Wednesday night.

In addition, AFA added that the stadiums with screens will also play an official video for the institution before the start of each game. It is hoped that supporters will take part in the tribute by clapping, cheering, waving their flags, and singing about the Inter Miami striker.

The minute number 10 was selected since Messi used the jersey number 10 while representing Argentina. He holds various national records including most appearances (207) and goals scored (125). He made the announcement through Instagram letter last Monday. Messi thanked the Argentinian people for their support and gave his reasons for making the decision.
