Bail denied to two in airport gold snatching case

A Dhaka court on Wednesday denied bail to two accused in a case filed over the alleged snatching of gold jewellery in the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Manzurul Islam passed the order after hearing a bail petition filed on behalf of Al-Amin Shanto and Abdur Rouf.

The duo were arrested on August 29 from the airport area with 99.5 grams of gold allegedly in their possession. They were later placed on one-day remand and sent to jail on August 31.

According to the case statement, the accused allegedly intercepted a rented Hiace van carrying Suman and his friend Rohan Chowdhury near Balaka Bhaban on August 28. They allegedly threatened the victims with a bomb, assaulted them and snatched gold jewellery weighing about 200 grams.

The case was filed with Airport Police Station by Suman. Police are investigating the allegations.
