Tk384cr road projects approved for Bandarban

The government has approved two procurement proposals worth nearly Tk384 crore for construction and development work on three roads for host communities in Bandarban.

The Cabinet Committee on Government Purchase approved the proposals at a meeting chaired by Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury at the Secretariat on Wednesday.

Under package PW-4 of the project, Tk193.84 crore will be spent on road development work from Nazirama Tripura Para to Lama Gajaria.

The work, to be implemented by the Roads and Highways Department, includes construction and development of 8.7km of road, 12 bridges and 18 culverts, along with drainage, slope protection, retaining walls and road safety infrastructure.

The contract was awarded to Spectra Engineers Ltd, Dhaka, the lowest technically responsive bidder, for Tk193.84 crore including VAT and taxes.

Under package PW-2, Tk190 crore will be spent on developing a 10.07km road from Ajinagar to Nazirama Tripura Para.

The work includes widening, strengthening and DBST surfacing of 5.123km of road, construction of 0.40km of rigid pavement, seven bridges and 12 culverts, as well as drainage, slope protection, retaining walls and road safety infrastructure.

The contract was awarded to National Development Engineers Ltd for Tk190 crore, including VAT and taxes.

Both packages will be financed by the government’s development budget and the World Bank.

The project, titled “Construction and development of three roads for host communities under Bandarban Road Division”, was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council on October 15, 2019. Its implementation period runs from September 1, 2019 to December 31, 2026.
