Fernandez joins City in record £125m

Manchester City have signed Argentina midfielder Enzo Fernandez from Chelsea on a five year contract. 

The deal is worth  £125 million, around Tk 2,072 crore, making it a British record transfer fee.

City had been looking for a world-class midfielder since Rodri left the club. Fernandez, who won the World Cup with Argentina, is expected to fill the role. His transfer fee equals the amount Liverpool paid Alexander Isak.

“I could not be happier to be here, every player wants to be a part of such kind of club”, Fernandez said after joining City. 

“I am ready for the challenge of helping the club win more trophies, the club is meant to win”.

Chelsea had initially set Fernandez’s price at  £120 million. However, no club made an official offer before the deadline.

Fernandez was keen to leave Chelsea, while City showed strong interest in the final 48 hours of the transfer window. 

The deal was finally completed, with Chelsea receiving  £5 million more than initial asking price.
