Iran assures safe passage for Bangladeshi fuel ships through Hormuz

Iran has assured Bangladesh that its fuel-carrying vessels will face no obstruction while sailing through the strategically vital Strait of Hormuz, Iranian Ambassador to Bangladesh Jalil Rahimi Jahanabadi said on Wednesday.
The ambassador made the remarks after paying a courtesy call on Bangladesh’s newly appointed State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Jahanabadi said Bangladeshi fuel vessels would be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz without any obstruction.
He also said Iran has no concerns about the proposed Mecca Pact and would join the initiative if invited by its member states.
''The Mecca Pact is not an alliance against Iran,'' the ambassador said, adding that Tehran welcomes Bangladesh’s positive stance on the initiative.
The Strait of Hormuz is a crucial maritime route for global energy shipments.
