Hamza struggles on Sheffield return but celebrates win

Hamza Chowdhury took to the field just one day after completing his permanent move to Sheffield United and witnessed his side’s thrilling victory.
He featured directly in the starting eleven. However, the Bangladesh national team defensive midfielder felt uncomfortable in his team’s triumph at Bramall Lane on Tuesday (September 1) night.
Hamza had a difficult start to the game. Within the first minute, Bolton winger Thierry Gale beat him on the left flank. Hamza failed to block Gale's cross, and though his teammate initially cleared it, Simons scored from the rebound. While the goal was not entirely Hamza's fault, blocking the cross could have averted the danger.
British news outlet The Star gave Hamza a rating of 5 out of 10 for his performance. Played at right-back, he also missed a clear scoring chance before half-time. The outlet noted that he looked unsettled and uncomfortable in the right-back role.
Despite the shaky start, Sheffield bounced back. Defender Japhet Tanganga equalized three minutes after Bolton’s opener. Bolton took the lead again in the 67th minute, but Patrick Bamford leveled the score a minute later. Attacking midfielder Romelle Donovan scored the winner deep into stoppage time at 90+3 minutes.
The match carried special significance for Bangladeshi fans, who saw it as a South Asian duel. Sheffield faced Bolton Wanderers, featuring Sri Lankan-origin midfielder Xavier Simons against Bangladeshi-origin Hamza.
Sheffield secured a 3-2 victory in the English Football League Championship fixture.
Speaking after the match, Hamza expressed his delight. "It feels great to be back at Bramall Lane. It was a big win, though the job was tough. We did not want to start the evening by conceding in the first minute, but the team showed great courage to fight back. This stadium and the fans are very special," he said.
Hamza joined Sheffield permanently on August 31 after spending 21 years at Leicester City. He previously played 19 matches for Sheffield on loan last season, helping them reach the play-off final.
