IRGC claims US casualties in retaliatory strike

The IRGC stated it fired heavy ballistic missiles at a US base in Jordan, resulting in a "large number of US military casualties." However, two US officials told Reuters that initial assessments showed no casualties, though they cautioned the situation remains fluid.

Iranian media also reported a major drone attack on a US base in Bahrain, while Kuwait's military stated its air defenses engaged hostile drones. Additionally, the IRGC claimed a coordinated strike in Erbil, northern Iraq, destroyed a repair center, equipment warehouses, and a surveillance balloon control unit. Neither US nor Iraqi officials confirmed the Erbil strikes.

The regional escalation follows joint US-Israeli strikes inside Iran on February 28. Tensions intensified over the weekend after US forces struck Iran's Larak Island, prompting Tehran to target two airbases in Jordan.

In a Fox News interview, US President Donald Trump dismissed the likelihood of a new ceasefire following the collapse of a previous agreement over the Strait of Hormuz. Trump stated that another deal with Tehran "would not be worth the paper it is written on," asserting that the US had given Iran ample opportunities.
