Mother-son among 3 die in Jamalpur electrocution

The deceased were 14-year-old Raju and his mother, Lacky Akter, 40, of Dewanganj, and Mohammad Jonaed Hasan Tayeb, a Class X student from Melandaha.

According to police and locals, Raju, son of Abdur Rashid, was trying to repair a faulty electrical connection at their home in the Old Railway Line area near the Dewanganj upazila parishad when he was electrocuted. Seeing her son stuck to the live wire, Lacky rushed to rescue him and was also electrocuted.

Raju’s grandmother, Buli Begum, then rushed to save the two. She too came into contact with the electricity and suffered serious injuries.

Dewanganj Model Police Station OC Anwar Hossain said police visited the scene after being informed of the incident. 

No complaint has been filed by the deceased’s family, he added.

In Melandaha, Jonaed Hasan Tayeb was electrocuted at Amina Dakhil Madrasa in the Kona Malancha area in the afternoon.

Police said Tayeb had left his books in the classroom during a break and gone outside to play. After school, he returned to collect his books and came into contact with an electrical wire near the roof of the building. He died at the scene.

Melandaha Police Station OC ATM Mahmudul Haque confirmed the incident.

Police visited the scene and handed the body over to the family after completing the necessary legal procedures. Further legal action is underway.
