The students of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST) have been experiencing a problem in getting sufficient transport service after 10 PM.
Only a few easy bikes ply in the period from 9 PM to 10 PM, but there are no vehicles available after that. Students have to walk 2-2.5 km back to their respective halls due to the unavailability of transport.
Female students told that walking alone in the night is posing security risks for them. Panna Rani Sarker, who stays in a female hall, told that two men came very close to her while she was coming back to her hall after failing to get any vehicle near 10 PM.
Students also told about vehicle shortages in the morning in the area of main gate and Shah Paran Hall that has made them unable to reach classroom and examination hall in time.
General secretary of Easy Bike Operators' Committee Sadeq Ahmed told that they have instructed the drivers to maintain at least 10 easy bike service until 11 PM. He added that they will investigate the matter after students' complaints.
But the drivers have told that their vehicles become dead by around 8 pm due to excessive use since morning. They also cited bad condition of the roads inside the campus and repair works as the reason behind vehicle shortages.
Pro-Vice-Chancellor of SUST Professor Dr GM Rabiul Islam told that he is new to the post and he will take actions after discussing the matter. He added that students need to send their written complaints to Proctor's Office.
