Man killed in Ctg port covered van accident

A jetty sarkar was killed after a covered van struck his bicycle in the overflow yard area of Chittagong Port on Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Nasir Uddin Chowdhury, who worked as a jetty sarkar for Bismillah Shipping Agency. A jetty sarkar manages cargo discharge, loading, and customs formalities at sea or land ports.

Port sources stated that a covered van belonging to Fakir Apparels Limited was heading toward the gate with goods at around 4:30 PM.

The vehicle collided with Nasir's bicycle, throwing him to the ground and causing severe injuries to his head and body.

Port security personnel rescued him and rushed him to Chittagong Medical College Hospital in an ambulance. The attending doctor declared him dead upon arrival.

Authorities seized the covered van involved in the accident. However, driver Rafiqul Mina, 40, fled the scene immediately after the crash.

Chittagong Medical College Hospital Police Outpost In-charge Md Ashek confirmed the death, stating that doctors declared the victim dead when he arrived around 4:30 PM.

Legal proceedings regarding the incident are currently underway.
