ACC summons ex-Army chief Shafiuddin

The Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) summoned former Army chief Gen SM Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning over allegations of amassing illegal wealth through various irregularities and corruption.

In a notice signed by ACC Director and Investigating Officer Md Abul Hasnat, the commission asked the former army chief to appear at its headquarters on September 14 with a photocopy of his National Identity Card.

The ACC's Public Relations Office confirmed the matter on Sunday.

According to the notice, an investigation is underway against General Shafiuddin over allegations of acquiring illegal wealth through irregularities and corruption. It said hearing and recording his statement was "essential" in the interest of a fair investigation.

The commission has formed a two-member investigation team to conduct the inquiry and submit its report, with Abul Hasnat as team leader and Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain as a member.

The notice requested the former army chief to appear at the designated time and provide his statement regarding the allegations.

However, the notice did not specify the nature or details of the alleged irregularities, nor did it disclose the amount of wealth allegedly acquired unlawfully.
