The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) has summoned former army chief General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed for questioning over allegations of acquiring illegal wealth through irregularities and corruption.
According to an ACC notice, Shafiuddin has been asked to appear at the commission's headquarters on September 14 with a photocopy of his National Identity Card.
The notice was signed by ACC Director and inquiry officer Md Abul Hasnat. The matter was confirmed by the ACC's public relations office on Sunday.
The ACC said an inquiry was underway into allegations that the former army chief had acquired illegal assets through various irregularities and corrupt practices.
A two-member inquiry team, led by ACC Director Md Abul Hasnat and including Deputy Director Mozammel Hossain, has been formed to conduct the inquiry and submit a report.
The notice asked Shafiuddin to appear before the ACC at the scheduled time and provide his statement regarding the allegations.
