The government is undertaking a major overhaul of the country’s education system, with sweeping reforms planned for the curriculum from the 2028 academic year, said Prime Minister’s Adviser and spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office Dr Mahadi Amin.

He said the government aims to rebuild the education sector by ending the practice of artificially inflating GPA-5 results and creating misleading perceptions about students’ academic performance, while placing greater emphasis on merit, ethics and human values.

As an initial step, new subjects covering the Fourth Industrial Revolution, artificial intelligence and sports will be introduced into the curriculum from the 2027 academic year, Mahadi Amin said.

''The curriculum will undergo extensive and comprehensive reforms from the 2028 academic year. This will enable us to develop a sustainable and transformative curriculum framework suited to the country’s current global realities.''

Mahadi Amin said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman had made it clear that the education sector would be the government’s top priority.

''In line with the BNP government’s election manifesto, the formation of an Education Reform Commission to restore discipline to the education system is being considered with the highest priority.''
