A youth was killed in a clash following an altercation at a hotel bar in Cox's Bazar city on Thursday (August 27).
The incident occurred around 11:30 PM at the Renaissance Hotel bar, confirmed Cox's Bazar Sadar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sheikh Mohammad Ali.
The victim was identified as Rashed. His body was sent to the Cox's Bazar Sadar Hospital morgue, the OC said.
Police detained one individual, named Solaiman, in connection with the murder overnight.
Citing CCTV footage and bar staff, police stated that an argument broke out among several patrons seated inside the bar. At one point, two individuals were called in from outside.
When the duo arrived, the group attacked them, leaving Rashed critically injured. He later died of his injuries.
Additional Superintendent of Police Md Ohidur Rahman confirmed the sequence of events.
He noted that Rashed was one of the two men called from outside. A physical fight broke out between them and the patrons inside, during which Rashed was beaten severely.
"We are identifying the culprits by analyzing CCTV footage from inside the bar. Multiple police teams are working to arrest them," ASP Ohidur added.
Police sealed off the bar until crime scene evidence collection and formal procedures are complete.
In response to the incident, police officials stated that the bar's overall security measures and entry control protocols will also undergo investigation.
