PM Tarique mourns loss of lives in Nepal floods

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman expressed deep grief and concern over the loss of lives and widespread destruction caused by sudden floods and landslides in Nepal.

He expressed solidarity with the government and people of Nepal and assured all possible support from Bangladesh for relief and rescue operations.

Reports emerged on Wednesday (August 26) of over a hundred deaths and hundreds missing after the severe natural disaster hit Nepal. A significant number of the missing is tourists.

In a condolence message, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said, "The people of Bangladesh are shocked and saddened by the loss of lives and destruction caused by sudden floods and landslides in Nepal. We are closely monitoring the situation. Hundreds of people remain missing, and many are feared dead. Tourists are also among the missing."

The message stated that the government and people of Bangladesh, under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, stand in solidarity with the government and friendly people of Nepal during this difficult period.

The Prime Minister extended deep condolences to the families of the victims and expressed hope for the swift rescue of the missing and proper medical treatment for the injured.

He added that Bangladesh stands ready to extend all possible cooperation to Nepal for relief and rescue operations.

Meanwhile, sudden floods and landslides caused extensive damage in various regions of Nepal. Authorities fear the death toll may rise further due to the large number of missing individuals. Multiple agencies and rescue teams are working to locate missing persons.

Emergency teams are rescuing stranded individuals and distributing aid in affected areas. Local administration officials and rescue agencies are working alongside the Nepalese government to handle the crisis.

By standing beside Nepal during this crisis, Bangladesh reaffirmed its friendly diplomatic ties and commitment to humanitarian assistance.
