CARE Bangladesh hosts National Learning Sharing Workshop on WLiE

CARE Bangladesh organized a National Learning Sharing Workshop under its Women Lead in Emergencies (WLiE) project, funded by the Agence Française de Développement (AFD), at Hotel Bengal Blueberry in Gulshan-2, Dhaka.

The workshop focused on reviewing key learnings, challenges and achievements from Cycle-01 and identifying necessary adjustments for Cycle-02 of the project.

The session was inaugurated by Emebet Menna, Deputy Country Director "Programme at CARE Bangladesh. She emphasized the importance of reflection and learning in adapting programs effectively, noting that lessons and recommendations from Cycle-01 would help guide improvements in the next cycle.

The event brought together women leaders, community representatives, Jago Nari, CARE Bangladesh staff and government officials. Joint Secretary Abu Daud Md. Ghulam Mustafa of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief joined the event online as the chief guest. The session was moderated by Md. Rafiqul Islam, Project Manager of WLiE.

Ms. Hosne Ara Hasi, Executive of Jago Nari, highlighted several innovative interventions, including Gender Role Shifting, Couple Counselling and women's participation in Union Disaster Management Committees (UDMCs). She said these initiatives have helped women become more self-reliant while strengthening their leadership roles within their communities.

Six community women leaders also shared their experiences and stories of change, highlighting how the WLiE model has contributed to increased confidence, collective action and resilience among women in Barguna.

Interactive demonstrations, video presentations and “Stories of Change” sessions further showcased the project's impact on women and communities.

The chief guest praised CARE Bangladesh's efforts to strengthen women's leadership in disaster preparedness and expressed interest in visiting Barguna to observe the project's activities firsthand.

The workshop concluded with remarks and a vote of thanks from Rawnak Jahan, Director of the Women and Youth Programme at CARE Bangladesh. She thanked women leaders, community representatives, Jago Nari, CARE Bangladesh staff and other stakeholders for their active participation.

She also stressed the importance of regular monitoring, reflection and adaptation to achieve stronger outcomes in Cycle-02, reaffirming CARE Bangladesh's commitment to promoting transformative change through women's leadership in emergencies.
