Repair damaged Khoai River embankment quickly: Farhad

State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad has instructed officials to urgently repair the damaged embankment along the Khoai River and take long-term measures to ensure sustainable river management.

He gave the instructions during an inspection of ongoing riverbank protection works along both banks of the Kushiara River in Moulvibazar on Tuesday morning.

The state minister was briefed on the progress of the project, the quality of work and measures being taken to prevent river erosion.

At around 11:00 AM, he visited the damaged Khoai River protection embankment at Kaliganj in Laskarpur Union of Habiganj Sadar Upazila. The embankment was damaged in a recent flash flood.

After inspecting the affected areas, Farhad instructed officials to repair the damaged sections immediately.

He also ordered officials to conduct a feasibility study as soon as possible to develop a permanent and sustainable solution to prevent similar damage in the future.

“We have come to inspect the embankment damaged by the flash flood and take necessary measures following the Prime Minister’s urgent instructions,” he said.

He said a sustainable protection system would be developed through long-term planning after assessing the overall condition of the river and embankment.

Local Whip Md GK Gaus, the Director General of the Bangladesh Water Development Board, Habiganj Deputy Commissioner, the concerned chief engineer and superintendent engineer, among others, were present during the inspection.
