27 police officers transferred from Mymensingh outpost

Twenty-seven police personnel, including the in-charge, have been transferred from Mymensingh city’s Police Outpost No. 1 following allegations of negligence of duty.

The personnel were transferred to different police stations in the public interest through separate office orders, Mymensingh Additional Superintendent of Police (Finance and Administration) Md Abdullah Al Mamun confirmed on Monday evening.

The transferred personnel include outpost in-charge Mahabub Milky, four sub-inspectors, five assistant sub-inspectors and 17 constables. New personnel will be posted at the outpost soon, he said.

According to police sources, leaders and activists of the Awami League’s youth wing, Jubo League, held a sudden procession in the Ganginapar area under the outpost on 21 August.

Following the procession, all personnel deployed at the outpost were transferred over allegations of negligence of duty, the sources said.

Police have arrested 20 leaders and activists of the banned Awami League and its affiliated organisations in the past four days in connection with the procession.

Kotwali Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge Md Shibirul Islam said a case was filed under the Anti-Terrorism Act over the procession. Sub-Inspector Mazhar, who filed the case, named 43 people and accused another 20 to 30 unidentified people.

The 20 arrested accused have been sent to jail through court orders, he said, adding that efforts were underway to arrest the remaining accused.
