‘Facing El Chapo’ grabs top spot on netflix

The recently premiered film Facing El Chapo has become extremely popular all over the globe, managing to reach the first place in the list of the most popular films of the streaming platform Netflix in just one day since its August 21 premiere.

The 91-minute film, directed by Chava Cartas, was created on the basis of a true story and tells about the dramatic recapture of the infamous Mexican drug lord Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán who was captured again in 2016.

The plot starts with the story of two police officers who stop a car containing a stolen license plate and realize that El Chapo is the owner. After this, the film tells the viewer about the events which led to his capture after he managed to escape from a Mexican prison in 2015.

Facing El Chapo is not the only work of Netflix dedicated to the notorious drug lord since the 2017 series El Chapo which depicts the rise of the character was released several years ago.

While the series tells the viewer about the whole life of El Chapo, the short film is dedicated to only one specific event in his life.
